One of the darker aspects of some religions, is ritual human sacrifice. Mexico is one of those countries that is steeped in tradition, but some of those traditions are drenched in blood. Hear the stories of the Aztec empire, which was centered around human sacrifice. And hear about some modern tales of human sacrifice, including a 20th century self-proclaimed high priestess who began her own Mexican cult, and demanded human blood in return.

A recent National Geographic poll showed that more than 77 percent of the public believes that aliens from another planet have visited the earth at some point in history. It’s disturbing enough when a person vanishes without a trace. But there have been a few cases of mysterious disappearances that defy logic and make you wonder if the truth might come from beyond the stars.

During the early 20th century, America was caught up in a growing spiritualist movement that swept the nation. One hotspot for seances and new religious movements during the 1920s was Detroit. There, a self-styled “Divine Prophet” named Benny Evangelista met a brutal end. He and his entire family were murdered by an unknown assailant wielding an axe.  Here the true story of this bizarre unsolved murder, as well as the story of a man so determined to prove there was an afterlife, that he set in motion a plan to go there in person.

Long before the Zodiac Killer terrorized southern California, there was another similar string of murders in which a bizarre killer stalked and murdered people at local lover’s lanes then sent taunting, coded messages to the police and newspapers. Although the 3X killer is almost forgotten today, during the 1930s, the unknown man terrorized the entire city of New York, and launched one of the largest criminal manhunts in the city’s history.

On the night of March 19, 1919, all the dance halls and bars and nearly every home in the city of New Orleans was blasting jazz all through the night. But this wasn’t any ordinary night of reverie in the Big Easy, for this city-wide concert was meant for an audience of one, an axe-wielding maniac who purported to be a creature straight out of hell.
